A jacketed Vessel is a container that is designed to control the temperature of its contents. It achieves this by using a jacket which can cool or heat the vessel when either cooling or heating fluid is circulated through the jacket.
A jacket can be applied to the entire surface of a vessel or just a portion. It is also possible to divide the jacket into ‘zones’. This allows both cooling and heating fluid to be used at the same time and focused at different areas of the vessel.
Jacketed Vessels can be used as chemical reactors, to remove the elevated heat resulting from a reaction or to reduce the viscosity of fluids. They are commonly used in a wide range of industries, some of which are shown below;
